Handcrafted Ceramic Lamps

George Scatchard ceramic lamps are handcrafted in Vermont in a converted horse barn. The original shapes are hand thrown on the potter's wheel by George Scatchard. Next molds are made to cast the ceramic lamp bases which are trimmed and glazed by hand on the wheel. The glazes are applied with a brush while the lamp spins on a potter's wheel. This results in the characteristic swirls that are seen in many of our glazes. The glazes themselves are the result of a lifetime of experimentation and are unique in their variety and richness. The clay and glazes are fired in a gas kiln to almost 2400F in a 24 hour period. This single high temperature firing results in a very strong and durable product.
